DC Universe Online Continues on the PS4
When Playstation announced their day one lineup for games it became apparent that when it came to exclusives out of the gate that Playstation hit the ground running. Of all of those exclusives one of the most surprising was DC Universe Online which is a 3 year old free to play MMORPG. First of all, it is really shows how MMOs have replaced the old school RPG in this day in age. Or as I like to call it A.W. (After World of Warcraft). It also shows how well DCUO has aged and been maintained as a franchise. Not only that but for all MMO fans out there it is exciting to see Sony offering this game as a day one title because it opens up the door immediately for surely many more MMOs making it to consoles, which has been a rarity up to this point.
It seemed only appropriate for Sony to make this game available for the PS4 since DC Universe Online is already running on the Playstation Network and with the powerhouse that is the PS4 it was an easy transition short of a few hiccups. Surprisingly, one of the major complaints of DCUO on the PS4 is that there is no background download available for this game and since it is a 28gb game it takes a pretty significant chunk of time to complete the download. (Let’s be honest though this is not a very big deal compared to most day one issues… cough…. cough… Battlefield 4). However, after this download you are able to jump right in and begin getting harassed for being a noob from the many veteran gamers in Metropolis. If you are transitioning from the PC or the PS3 however, your characters will be available upon signing in and you are able to continue from where you last logged out.
As I said before DCUO has aged quite well and many claim that it is the most quality free-to-play MMO to date. It allows solo questing all the way up to level 70 however, if you would like to group up there is many situations to do so. Therefore, even if you are new to the game and don’t have a friend base to help you level you are still able to progress nicely. Also, there is no need to pay for content but the expansions that have been released (and there has been quite a few), are all well put together and actually worth the price you pay.
Even though there is no PS4 exclusives for the game its transition to the PS4 was treated as a relaunch in which Sony has updated the graphics, addressed many user concerns and bugs, added much more content to the environment to enhance this already detailed world in vivid true 1080p HD. There is PSvita support planned for the near future, companion apps coming for your iPhone and Android platforms, and Sony has announced that there are many more expansions schedule for the this game which, (as any DCUO player knows), come out quite regularly keeping the game fresh and exciting. While it is not a new game or a port of a highly popular third party game, DC Universe Online is an exciting addition to the PS4 and has been and continues to be a very quality addition to the MMO genre. And with the promise of much more future content you can expect to see this title stick around for quite some time for PC gamers and PS gamers.
