Destiny 2 Beta Thoughts – Why It Feels More Like An Expansion, Not A Sequel.
Here are my thoughts on the Destiny 2 Beta. Bungie has put in tons of time and effort into making a great sequel. But in this Gamers opinion, the Destiny 2 Beta makes the game feel more like an expansion. Let’s break it down and figure out why.
First and foremost I would like to say that I am a huge fan of Destiny and Bungie. I think that the Destiny franchise is great and I think that Bungie is a great company. They have reinvented the MMO-RPG genre and it is fantastic. Bungie also does a great job of listening to their community and doing their best to accommodate their fans. Although, Bungie will go the extra mile for their fans, I feel that this sometimes gets in the way of making a truly great game. In the case of the Destiny 2 Beta, they have let the community influence the game too much. Guardians have been clamoring for a better PVP experience for the longest time and with the Destiny 2 Beta, they are finally getting what they wanted. But it turns out, that what they wanted didn’t work out to make the best PVP experience. Either way, we are not here to talk about specifics. We want to cover our thoughts on the game in general.
The reason the Destiny 2 Beta feels more like and expansion rather than a sequel, is that there isn’t very many additions to the overall destiny experience. What I mean by that is the gameplay as well as the overall feel of the game is too much like Destiny one. In my opinion, a game’s sequel should have a few “additions” to the game rather that expansion on already existing content. Now that’s not to say there are some huge changes coming in Destiny 2 but it doesn’t seem like there are many new additions. When I say additions, I mean something like a new playable character race, or a new subclass. These are things that would make people say, “I can’t wait to get the new Destiny 2. Did you hear that you can play as a Fallen or Cabal…”. That’s the type of thing that would increase my enthusiasm for the game coming out. Remember, these are just my opinions. You think what you want about the game. Maybe, it’s perfect as is, but I need more if I’m going to investing time into this new game.
There are too many great games out there these days and they are all vying for your time and money. Because of this intense competition, company are trying harder and harder to stay competitive. So, for a game to come out and not deliver, it would be catastrophic. In the Destiny 2 Beta, we hopefully are only getting a small glimpse of what’s to come. They game may release with a ton of new additions and everyone will be happy; but, that’s not the way it’s being represented in the Beta.
