Destiny Engrams Patch 1.02 Fixes
The end-game to Destiny is very similar to a typical MMORPG. The constant grinding for high level gear allows players to progress to level 30 as well as complete Vault of Glass, the first raid released so far. This grinding for gear was made easier until recently due to an exploit that was found by players farming caves that respawned enemies every six seconds. This exploit was quickly patched by Bungie who stated that “shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn’t our dream for how Destiny is played.” Players were instead given an even easier way to get legendary items with the release of the Queen’s Wrath event which unlocks level 24 strikes that guarantee a legendary helm and chest drop. While this limited time event ends soon, players still have had complaints about the inconsistency of engrams being decoded by the Cryptarch NPC in the tower. Players have been teased since the games release by receiving Legendary and Rare engrams that upon being decoded do not produce the appropriate level item. More often than not Legendary engrams turn into Rare items and Rare Engrams produce Uncommon or Common items. This has caused much frustration in Destiny’s endgame and the forums have been littered with comments from frustrated guardians who are continuously being disappointed after relentlessly grinding for gear. Bungie has heard these concerns and today released the Destiny Engrams patch.
Starting today Legendary engrams will always produce a Legendary quality item or higher and Rare engrams will always produce a Rare quality item or higher. This change will undoubtedly make the grind to level 30 more enjoyable. Now when receiving a Legendary engram players are allowed to get excited instead of shedding a single tear after getting screwed by the Cryptarch NPC.
Bungie revealed their plans for the Destiny Engrams patch 1.0.2 a little over a week ago and many players thought it would be wise to stockpile all their Legendary engrams until the inevitable release of today’s patch. Unfortunately, this exploit was met with disappointment post-patch when these engrams were downgraded one level. While many players were upset by this, it allows players to fully experience the new loot system without fully upgrading their character in one day.
A few other changes were implemented with Destiny Engrams patch 1.0.2 as well with Ascendant Shards and Ascendant Materials being promoted to Legendary quality to accurately identify their rarity. Legendary and Rare engrams have also been added to the potential rewards for Vanguard Tiger Strike Missions, Daily Heroic Missions, and Weekly Heroic Missions (first time daily and weekly only). Minor changes were also made to the Crucible reducing time limits on certain maps and increasing the RNG of the maps that will be playable when playing Control and Clash.
