Destiny Rise of Iron Year 3 Thorn
Recently, Bungie has let us know that there will be a Destiny Rise of Iron Year 3 Thorn. If you are a fan of Destiny then you know what I’m talking about. If you have been playing Destiny since year one, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. The Thorn was at one time the most dominate weapons in the Crucible. After listening to the Destiny community, Bungie went ahead and made some dramatic changes to the weapon and it was never the same. The Thorn has been nerfed so many times that it has lost its practicality as a weapon-of-choice in the game. Also, since the arrival of Destiny’s The Taken King, the Thorn and other “year one” weapons remain at the year one status, unable to compete with the year two weapon damage levels.
With the arrival of the Rise of Iron expansion, Bungie will be bringing the Thorn up to “year 3” status and all guardians will be able to acquire the hand cannon through an exotic weapon quest line. This is great news for those who have been wanting to see the Thorn return to its former glory. There are also others who think reintroducing the Thorn will created more problems with the balance of the games current “playability”. I think only time will tell but, either way, I like the idea of bringing some old favorites back into the mix. Plus with weapons like the Thorn taking center stage in a quest line, it may reveal some more interesting Destiny lore that I really do enjoy.
As for the balance issues that the Thorn threatens to change, I don’t believe we have enough information to go on to know if it will even be an issue. We do know some things about the game that are changing and will effect the Thorn directly. Like the changes to artifacts. There is one in particular called the Memory of Silimar which, if worn, will significantly reduce all damage-over-time effects. So, if you are wearing this Artifact, and then you’re hit by the Thorn, then you should have any problems resisting its signature perk. Also, we don’t know any of the weapon and armor balance changes that will be coming with the new 385 light level. There’s just not enough information out there yet. Once thing I do hope comes with the Destiny Rise of Iron Year 3 Thorn is, the use of Ornaments. The Thorn does look pretty distinguishing already but it might look even cooler with some tweaks. Either way, it promises to be a fun quest to complete. I for one loved using the Thorn and can’t wait to get this weapon back into my arsenal.
