Diablo 3 Console Patch 2.1.0
Console gamers received great news on the 7th of October when Blizzard released patch 2.1.0 for the console versions of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. This Diablo 3 console patch originally became available for the PC on August 26th, 2014. Blizzard announced shortly after the console release that they would be releasing this patch fairly soon to keep the game up to date with its PC counterpart. This comes as little surprise due to the instant popularity of this game achieved since its release on the next-gem systems.
Patch 2.1.0 includes a number of new features, such as Legendary Gems, a new upgrade that drops within Greater Rifts and The Vault (two new zones included in the patch). These new gems when paired with amulets and rings unlock unique new abilities, bringing even more diversity to the combat system. A socket can now also be added to weapons that don’t already have one with the introduction of Ramaladni’s Gift. Ramaladni’s Gift is a random item drop and has a one-time use before being consumed when upgrading your weapons.
A “What’s New” screen has been added and will appear when Diablo 3 is updated with new patches or hot fixes. This is something that Blizzard has been doing on the PC for years and a feature I wish every game would start including on the next-gen systems. Patch notes used to be something that were rarely needed on consoles of the past. However, it is a new age of gaming in which PC and Consoles alike receive frequent updates. With all these constant adjustments, it becomes tedious to have to “google” the patch notes to find out what the complete list of changes are.
One of the biggest additions with the Diablo 3 console patch 2.1.0 is the new advancement in the Treasure Goblin. Much like Santa Claus, the elusive Treasure Goblin has a sack full of goodies for players lucky enough to find him in their adventures. Now besides dropping loot, there is a chance for him to spawn a special portal into “The Vault” upon being defeated. This Vault is a new area that has various treasures awaiting those that enter and also is the home of a new boss named: Baroness Greed.
The Cesspools and Greater Rifts are two new areas that have been added along with The Vault. Greater Rifts are a type of Nephalem Rift with all the features of a typical survival mode. It contains an infinite number of levels that increase in difficulty the further you move on. Players are awarded the chance to upgrade their Legendary Gems upon completing a zone or can choose to continue to the next Greater Rift if able to finish under the allotted time period.
Blizzard continues to add features to Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls and this game just keeps getting better. These new features added with the Diablo 3 console patch give players even more options to upgrade their characters and new ways to do so.
