Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls – It was a long time comin’!
Blizzard finally is able to breathe a sigh of relief after its new expansion to Diablo 3 has revitalized the series. Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls sold 2.7 million copies within the first week as fans of the franchise continue to flock back to the world of Sanctuary. This number includes digital and physical copies combined. This proves to be a huge success for Blizzard after fans openly criticized the vanilla version of the series, especially for the addition of the auction house.
“With Reaper of Souls, we wanted to emphasize all the things that PC gamers have always loved about the Diablo series, from the dark gothic setting to the piles and piles of epic loot,” Blizzard chief executive Mike Morhaime said. “We’re excited to see that players are enjoying the changes we’ve made to the Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls, and we look forward to achieving our Paragon levels alongside everyone else in the weeks and months ahead.”
As mentioned in my past reviews this expansion includes a new level cap, a new Crusader class, the addicting adventure mode, Nephalim rifts, and an all new loot system. One of the most exciting new features that I have experienced is the Mystic Artisan. This allows you to enchant or reroll one stat on each of your pieces of gear. This really allows you to customize your toon more freely and helps players create more specific builds for their characters. Also, with the new clan system it allows players group up more easily with friends and clan members alike to take advantage of the Nephalim rifts which after the most recent patch 2.0.4 has the greatest potential for legendary loot.
Another great addition to this expansion is the new relevancy of the crafting system. Before, crafting in Diablo 3 seem pretty useless, but now the legendary and set crafting plans create some pretty fantastic gear. Materials for these crafting plans are sometimes hard to come by, but this is also something that was addressed in the latest patch as these mats now have higher drop rates.
Hopefully this will be a whole new beginning for this franchise and with more patches and updates to come, Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls has a bright (err… dark) future ahead of it. It is definitely too soon to speculate, but with the renewed popularity fans of the series can only hope that this will not be the last expansion of the series that we will see. Especially since the end of Act V is “kinda” open ended. “He always finds a way…” –Adria
