Final Fantasy Type 0 HD Get A March 17th Release
On the Eve of E3 Square-Enix informed the public that their first release for the next-gen consoles would not be Final Fantasy XV, but instead a re-mastered version of Final Fantasy Type 0. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17, 2015. This game was originally released for PSP in Japan nearly three years ago and looks like it as well, with its PlayStation 2 quality graphics. However, due to the decline of popularity with the PSP in North America at the time it was only released in Japan. While Type-0 HD looks like a pretty good title, it unfortunately is classic Square-Enix style to distract the public with a Final Fantasy re-release instead of innovating anything new. With that said, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is very dark and has a different tone then the Final Fantasy’s that we are used to. From what has been revealed so far it seems to look a lot like Final Fantasy Tactics, one of the best titles the company has ever produced.
Since this is not a remake and just a re-master Type 0 HD has the exact same content as the original. Even though being re-mastered for the next—gen consoles there has been little to no alterations to the gameplay or narrative. Besides the HD upgrade this version of the game seems like a direct port. The story focuses around Class 0, which is a group of students with magical powers and abilities. Class 0 is involved in a war with the invading empire army. As the player you guide these students through the conflict in a fast-paced combat system allowing you to switch between members of Class 0 to take advantage of their different abilities. Fourteen different characters are available to choose from throughout the game allowing for players to pick their favorites from Class 0, instead of being limited to just a few characters like recent games in the series.
Final Fantasy Type 0 is not the first game that we expected Square-Enix to release on the next-gen systems, but seems like a solid addition to their lineup nevertheless. To sweeten the deal a demo of Final Fantasy XV, titled Episode Duscae, is included free with a purchase of Type-0 HD. This demo is not confirmed to be released on March 17th due to only a download code being included with the game disc. However, Square-Enix has stated that they plan on releasing Episode Duscae very soon following Type-0 HD’s release.
