The Iron Banner Tournament Is Upon Us
The Queen’s Wrath Event ended and right on its heels Bungie began the Iron Banner tournament. Many thoughts that the previous event went on for a little longer than needed and Bungie must have agreed making this new event only a week in length. Much like the Queen’s Wrath Event, a series of Iron Banner bounties have been added that gain you reputation with their faction. This reputation allows for you to purchase various shaders, gear, and emblems from the new Iron Banner vendor that has appeared in the area of the Tower previous unlocked for the Queen’s event. This time around a legendary weapon is available from the Iron Banner, unlike the queen’s emissary who only had rare weapons available. However, gaining rank 3 reputation with the Iron Banner will be quite a challenge with this shorter time period.
Besides the new bounties, the main feature of this week’s event is the Iron Banner tournament. This tournament takes place through 6v6 Control matches which gain you reputation with the Iron Banner as well as awarding unique new gear from this new faction. Unlike normal matches in the Crucible, gear and level come into play instead of all players being standardized to make for a more balanced experience. As posted in Bungie’s Blog on October 6th, “Bring your deadliest weapons. Equip your sturdiest armor. The Iron Lords are seeking out the most powerful warriors…” Players that have spent countless hours grinding for gear and weapons as well as farming for materials to fully upgrade them will have the upper hand in this Iron Banner tournament. Thus, justifying their hard work over that last month. Players that feel this is unfair or intimidating will be relieved to know that so far the community has reported not noticing much of a difference.
The complaints about the Crucible balancing remain the same. The Auto-Rifle and Shotgun build is still the main issue with players concerning the PVP portion of Destiny. While they work well for the PVE portion of the game, in the Crucible they are considered overpowered by the community. These concerns are not unreasonable and even Bungie stated in their developer notes on Sept 25th that the Auto-Rifle and Shotgun will both be getting adjusted due to their long range and stopping power. These weapons were both intended to be close to medium range weapons and are currently much too effective at longer ranges. No news on when this will be adjusted has emerged yet, but Bungie is aware of the problem.
QQ aside, with only a week to grind Iron Banner reputation it is time to put your big girl pants on and meet your fellow Guardians in the Crucible arena. The Iron Lords demand it and whether you like the Crucible or not, the gear for this event looks amazing. And let’s be honest isn’t that 75% of the reason we play MMORPGs.
