Project Mecca: A Video Publishing and Social Website Built and Designed for Gamers.
Project Mecca is a collection of developing teams that have come together to give the Video Gaming Community one thing, a video publishing and social website that is specifically oriented and designed for Gamers. Project Mecca’s goal is to help support on the ever-expanding community of Gamers and Gaming. The way they plan on doing that is by not under estimating the Project’s depth, a problem which has pledged projects like this in the past. The project is also using the ever-popular Kickstarter to help with funding.
So what can we expect from the finished product of this project? Well, according to the campaign, Project Mecca will have three main focuses: gaming video publishing, online gaming accounts and a social networking platform. If you think about it, there are not many places online where gamers can go, socialize, and share ideas, that are exclusively for gamers. There are a ton of places online to PLAY video games, but not much else for gamers from the social side of things. There are also some very popular places to watch videos, but not many that are just for gaming videos, and with the promise that the development of the project with be done by Gamers, it’s interesting to see what Project Mecca has in store for the gaming community.
Also, the Project’s gaming accounts idea seems pretty cool. With all of your gaming accounts in one place, you would be able to see who’s playing, what, and on which system. Sometimes it does get frustrating have to switch from account to account to figure what system your friends are playing to newest cool game on. If there was a place where you could go to see your friend’s lists line up all nice and neat; that could be really convenient.
Bring these three different aspect to one website does seem a bit daunting. I do like the idea of having the majority of the funding going to the actual functioning part of the project. It does give some reassurance that they are taking this seriously and really to mean to deliver on their promise to their backers on Kickstarter. Some of the Project’s backing rewards seem pretty cool too. Like having your Gamertag reserved. You won’t have to add those hyphens or X marks to your Gamertag just you can fit what you actually want as your handle. That’s pretty awesome. Also, if you had just ten thousand dollars lying around, you could go to the release party and go school some people at a game of your choice with your own private set-up! Mine would be the original Super Mario Kart. Let the godlike gaming ensue!
