Warframe is Now Available on Xbox One
Xbox One owners received great news as Digital Extremes’ MMO-lite third person shooter, Warframe, became available to download on the Xbox One. It was originally released for the PC in early 2013 and was a day one release for the PlayStation 4. The game is a free-to-play title and has amassed a large following since its launch. During E3 this year Microsoft talked about the ID@Xbox Program and promised to continue to bring numerous indie titles to the Xbox One. Warframe is the first free-to-play title released through this program and more titles are scheduled to be released in the near future.
The game puts players in control of beings called Tenno. Tenno are ancient warriors who awake from cryo-stasis to find themselves in the middle of a war with a race of clones named the Corpus. The Tenno dawn a suit of exo-armor with special abilities called a Warframe. The game supports a four player co-op in which players complete in a variety of missions such as eliminating the opposition, acquiring data from terminals, eliminating high priority targets, defending an artifact, and survival modes. These exo-skeletons have a primary and secondary ability as well as a melee weapon that can be upgraded by acquiring experience and certain in-game challenges. In-game currency is also available to unlock certain gear, weapons, and consumables.
Digital Extremes has been very excited about the warm reception that the game has received since it release. And now with its release on Xbox One its popularity will continue to grow as it acquires new fans and welcomes back old ones. And let’s be honest this is a game that just makes you feel like a badass. Being a cybernetic ninja in space and slashing through countless enemies in a warlike setting is one of the reasons we all play video games and why it has become such a lucrative industry.
Unfortunately, the game’s release on the Xbox One has not been a smooth one. The reddit forums have been littered with complaints about frame rate issues, log in problems, and certain core gameplay moments being bugged. A patch to fix these issues has not been announced yet, but hopefully these bugs will be addressed in the very near future. Although regardless of these problems, the game is far from unplayable and is still a great experience even with the launch issues it has experienced on the Xbox One.
Microsoft has had a quality run of indie titles on the Xbox One with more on the way thanks to its self-publishing program for independent developers. The ID@Xbox Program has an excellent line-up coming soon including fan favorite Smite, as well as Space Engineers, SUPERHOT, Ghost of a Tale, and The Escapist.
